HardCut Rev Limit Popcorn Activation

Description

The Rev Limit is a device fitted to an internal combustion engine to limit its maximum rotation speed. The Rev Limit is pre-programmed in the car's engine control unit, except for cars with an automatic gearbox, which have a separate control unit. Cars need a limiter to prevent the engine from running above a predetermined rev level known as the "redline", the point where the red over-rev danger line is. If an engine exceeds the redline, commonly called "Over-Revving", engine damage may occur. The original limiter is already factory-set to a fixed value, but through SOFTWARE we are able to create the firing effect commonly called POPCORN, on diesel (on all types of ECUs and vehicles) as well as on petrol, as per the list below.

Hard-Cut

Hard Cut limit is a type of rev limiter that completely cuts the fuel or spark to the engine. These types of limiters activate based on the configured setting. The "rev limit" occurs because the limiter cuts the fuel or spark at the set ignition point, which causes the RPM to drop by a few revs. If the engine is at wide-open throttle when the revs drop, they quickly climb back up to the limit. This causes the engine to cycle between the maximum rev limit and the lower one.

Soft-Cut

Soft-Cut limiters are a type of rev limiter that partially cuts the fuel to the engine. These limiters can also retard the ignition timing. If a Soft-Cut rev limiter is used, the engine will begin to cut the fuel or retard the ignition timing until it slowly reaches the limit and slowly stays there.
