Antilag System & Pops Bang Activation
ANTILAG SYSTEM / POPS & BANG
Antilag System and\or Pops&Bang Activation
Description
The Anti Lag system was created to overcome the response delay typical of turbocharged engines, which occurs between pressing the accelerator and the moment maximum turbocharger pressure becomes available. On a system without Anti Lag, when the accelerator pedal is released the turbo reduces the rotation speed of its impellers and boost pressure drops accordingly. This also happens during gear changes. With the Anti Lag system, which is managed by the engine ECU and keeps injecting fuel even when the accelerator is not pressed, the turbo keeps spinning at the maximum planned pressure so that it is immediately responsive as soon as you accelerate again, avoiding the turbine response delay (Turbo Lag). The temperatures involved increase, as does the wear on the impeller shafts, because they constantly spin at very high speeds; this is why turbos suited to handling this situation without failing are required.
